New Air Force One Grounded for One Month This Fall for Urgent Defensive Upgrades

The White House press secretary announced that the new Air Force One will be taken out of service for one month this fall. The plane will undergo unspecified “enhancements” during that period. Officials have not detailed the exact nature of the upgrades.

The aircraft has faced increasing scrutiny over its defensive capabilities. Questions have been raised about whether the plane is adequately protected. The temporary grounding aims to address these concerns.

The press secretary did not provide specific technical details about the planned work. She simply referred to the process as routine upgrades. The exact timeline for the work has not been finalized.

This is the first time the new Air Force One has required such an extended maintenance period. The plane entered service earlier this year. Its development faced repeated delays and cost overruns.

The aircraft is a modified Boeing 747 designed to serve presidential travel. Its advanced communications and defensive systems are critical for national security. Upgrades are standard practice for presidential aircraft.

The White House emphasized the changes are necessary for operational readiness. The plane will remain out of service for the entire month. A backup aircraft will be used for presidential travel during that time.

Critics have questioned the overall cost and timeline of the program. The administration has defended the investment as essential. More details about the upgrades are expected in the coming weeks.
