House Votes to Restrict Trump’s Military Action Against Iran in New War Powers Rebuke

The House voted Thursday to rebuke President Trump over military actions against Iran, marking the second time lawmakers have pressed the commander in chief to seek congressional authorization for the conflict. A handful of Republicans sided with Democrats to approve the measure.

The resolution calls on the president to obtain explicit approval from Congress before engaging in further hostilities with Iran. It underscores ongoing tensions between the executive branch and legislative authority over war powers.

Lawmakers argued that the administration’s actions risked drawing the United States into a prolonged military engagement without proper oversight. Supporters emphasized the need for transparency and adherence to constitutional requirements.

Opponents of the measure contended it undermined the president’s ability to respond swiftly to threats. They warned that limiting military options could embolden adversaries in the region.

The vote reflects a broader divide in Congress over the scope of presidential authority in foreign policy. Similar legislation passed earlier in the year, though it did not alter the administration’s approach.

The White House has maintained that past resolutions authorized the use of force against Iran. Officials have criticized the House measure as a political maneuver with no practical effect.

The resolution now heads to the Senate, where its fate remains uncertain. Analysts expect a more contentious debate given the chamber’s narrower partisan margins.
