Trump Doubles Down on Baseless Minnesota Cyberattack Claim, Ignoring Iran Findings

President Trump has claimed, without providing evidence, that Minnesota’s Democratic-led government was responsible for a cyberattack on the state’s own water systems. Investigators, however, believe Iran is likely behind the intrusion.

The president’s statement contradicts the preliminary findings of federal and state investigators. Those officials have pointed to Iranian operatives as the probable culprits in the attack.

The incident targeted critical water infrastructure in the state. Officials reported that the breach was detected and contained before any major disruption occurred.

Trump’s remarks came during a public appearance on Friday. He did not specify what motivated his claim regarding Minnesota’s government.

Governor Tim Walz, a Democrat, has rejected the accusation. He called the president’s statement baseless and a distraction from the ongoing security response.

Federal cybersecurity agencies have not altered their initial assessment. They continue to investigate the attack as a foreign-backed operation linked to Iran.

The dispute highlights growing tensions between the White House and state officials over handling of cyber threats. It also raises questions about the reliability of public messaging during active investigations.

No group has formally claimed responsibility for the attack. Investigators are still tracing the attack’s origin and scope.

The incident has prompted renewed calls for stronger federal-state cooperation on cyber defense. Local officials have urged the public to remain vigilant but calm.
