Former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz sold his longtime Hawaii property for $36 million, according to public records. The sale comes months after he purchased a $44 million residence in Florida.
The Hawaii home had served as a private retreat for Schultz for years. Located on the island of Maui, the property spans several acres and includes direct beach access.
The transaction closed in early December, property records show. The buyer’s identity has not been disclosed publicly.
Schultz’s move to Florida aligns with a broader trend among wealthy individuals relocating from high-tax states. Florida offers no state income tax, while Hawaii imposes a top rate of 11%.
The Florida purchase, recorded in November, includes a waterfront estate in the town of Naples. That property features a private dock and multiple guest houses.
Schultz stepped down as Starbucks CEO in 2023 after leading the company through two separate tenures. He remains active in philanthropy and business ventures.
The Hawaii sale price falls slightly below Schultz’s original asking price, which had been set at $38 million when the home first listed last year. The property had been in his ownership since the late 1990s.
Real estate experts note that Maui’s luxury market has cooled in recent months, partly due to wildfire recovery efforts on the island. Still, high-end sales continue to attract buyers seeking privacy and oceanfront access.
Schultz’s Florida home purchase and Hawaii sale together represent a significant shift in his personal property portfolio. He now holds primary residence status in a state with no personal income tax.
The transactions do not appear to affect Schultz’s ongoing business interests, which include investments in early-stage companies and writing projects.
