Pentagon Inspector General Report Details U.S. Losses and Logistical Challenges in Iran War

A new report from the Pentagon Inspector General outlines the scope of U.S. losses during the war with Iran. The assessment details damage to American military infrastructure and equipment. It also describes the logistical strain placed on forces across the region.

Helicopters used for casualty evacuation were pulled from four countries to support operations. The report states that hundreds of military facilities were destroyed during the conflict. These losses affected bases, supply routes, and staging areas.

The findings highlight the difficulty of sustaining a large-scale campaign against Iran. U.S. forces faced persistent threats to airfields and logistics hubs. Repair and replacement costs have not been fully calculated.

Evacuation aircraft shortages forced commanders to redirect critical assets. Medical teams relied on helicopters drawn from allied nations and nearby theaters. This left some regions with reduced emergency response capacity.

Military planners had anticipated a high-tempo fight but underestimated infrastructure damage. The report notes that reconstruction will take years and significant funding. It also warns of gaps in future readiness if similar conflicts arise.

Iranian forces targeted facilities with missiles and drones throughout the war. Many struck air defense systems, fuel depots, and command centers. The inspector general cites these attacks as a key driver of U.S. losses.

The report recommends reviewing evacuation protocols and hardening bases. It urges better coordination with allies for medical airlift support. Congress is expected to examine the findings in upcoming hearings.
