Congress Passes Bipartisan Russia Sanctions Bill, Sends It to Trump

Congress passed a bipartisan bill imposing new sanctions on Russia. The measure targets financing for Russia’s war against Ukraine. It now goes to President Trump for his signature.

The House approved the bill despite objections from some Democrats. They opposed granting the president new tariff powers. The Senate had already passed the measure earlier.

The legislation aims to tighten economic pressure on Moscow. It focuses on banks and companies that support Russia’s military efforts. The bill passed as attacks in Ukraine intensified.

Democrats raised concerns about the tariff provisions. They argued the powers could be misused by the executive branch. Supporters said the tools are needed to enforce sanctions.

The bill includes penalties for foreign entities aiding Russia’s war effort. It also targets financing for key industrial sectors. Lawmakers said the goal is to raise the cost of the conflict.

The White House has not indicated whether Trump will sign the bill. He has previously expressed interest in tougher sanctions. The president’s signature would make the measure law.

The vote reflects rare bipartisan agreement on Russia policy. Both parties have called for stronger action against Moscow. The bill’s passage marks a shift in congressional strategy.
