Janus Henderson Debuts First Tokenized Fund Tracking Nasdaq-100 Index

Janus Henderson has launched a tokenized fund that tracks the Nasdaq-100 Index. The move marks the first time the benchmark has been licensed for a tokenized product. Nasdaq began offering licensing deals on its Big Tech benchmark to other money managers earlier this year.

The fund gives investors tokenized exposure to the index’s largest non-financial companies. Tokenization records fund shares on a blockchain, allowing faster settlement and transfer. Janus joins a growing list of asset managers exploring blockchain-based products.

Nasdaq’s decision to open licensing expanded how the index can be packaged. The benchmark has long been tied to traditional exchange-traded funds. Tokenized versions could reach investors seeking digital asset formats.

The fund still holds underlying securities tied to the index. Blockchain records represent ownership rather than replacing the assets themselves. This structure keeps the product connected to conventional markets.

Tokenized funds have drawn interest for their potential efficiency. Settlement can occur around the clock instead of waiting for standard market hours. Transfer of shares may also become quicker and more transparent.

Regulatory scrutiny remains a key factor for such products. Asset managers must meet existing rules while adapting to blockchain infrastructure. Janus has not disclosed the full set of operational details.

The launch signals further convergence between traditional finance and digital assets. Index providers are weighing new licensing models as demand grows. Other money managers may follow with similar tokenized offerings.
