RIP Cybertruck: The Stainless Steel Flop Tesla Never Wanted You to Remember

Tesla has stopped production of the Cybertruck, ending a controversial chapter for the automaker. The decision closes out a vehicle that divided opinion from the start.

The pickup debuted in 2019 with a stainless steel body and angular design unlike anything on the road. Its bold look drew attention but never translated into broad consumer demand.

Sales remained far below initial targets throughout the truck’s run. Production costs stayed high, and the complex stainless steel manufacturing process added persistent delays.

Critics questioned the vehicle’s practicality from the beginning. Its bed access, towing capacity, and everyday usability fell short of conventional pickup standards.

The Cybertruck also faced quality and reliability complaints from owners. Reports of panel gaps, software glitches, and weather-related issues surfaced repeatedly.

Enthusiasts praised the truck’s acceleration and futuristic styling. Those strengths, however, failed to offset its high price and limited appeal beyond a niche audience.

The halt reflects a broader shift in Tesla’s priorities toward more affordable models. Resources are moving to vehicles with wider market potential.

For the industry, the Cybertruck serves as a cautionary tale about betting on radical design over consumer needs. The pickup’s end marks a rare public retreat for Tesla.
