AMD and Micron Shares Surge as AI Data-Center Optimism Drives Chip-Sector Rally

Shares of AMD and Micron surged Tuesday, leading a broad rally in the semiconductor sector as renewed optimism around artificial intelligence data centers fueled investor enthusiasm.

The gains came amid a strong day for chip stocks, with the sector outperforming broader market indexes. Analysts attributed the surge to a shift in sentiment, with one noting a dramatic “return to AI data-center optimism.”

AMD’s stock jumped more than 5%, while Micron shares climbed over 4%. Other chipmakers also posted gains, reflecting a wave of buying interest across the industry.

The move reversed recent weakness in the sector, which had been weighed down by concerns over demand and geopolitical risks. Investors appeared encouraged by signs of sustained spending on AI infrastructure.

Micron, a memory-chip maker, benefited from expectations of higher demand for its products used in AI computing. AMD, a key rival to Nvidia in AI chips, saw renewed confidence in its competitive position.

The rally underscored the market’s focus on AI as a primary growth driver for the chip industry. Analysts said the data-center segment remains a bright spot, despite broader economic uncertainties.

Trading volumes were elevated, indicating strong conviction behind the move. The sector’s outperformance signaled that investors are betting on long-term AI adoption rather than short-term fluctuations.

The day’s gains added to a mixed year for chip stocks, which have faced volatility amid shifting trade policies and supply chain challenges. However, Tuesday’s surge highlighted the enduring appeal of AI-related plays.
