Wesley Edens, Fortress Co-Founder, Targeted in Alleged Sextortion Plot by Former Partner

A federal indictment has charged a woman with attempting to extort billionaire Wesley Edens, co-founder of the investment firm Fortress and co-owner of the Milwaukee Bucks. Prosecutors allege the woman threatened to release explicit videos and photographs of Edens unless he paid her a substantial sum.

The criminal complaint details a months-long scheme that began after a sexual relationship between Edens and the woman ended. Authorities say she demanded millions of dollars in exchange for keeping the intimate material private.

Edens, who built his fortune through Fortress Investment Group, reported the alleged extortion attempt to law enforcement earlier this year. The investigation led to the woman’s arrest on charges of interstate communication with intent to extort.

Court documents indicate the woman sent multiple threatening messages to Edens and his associates. She allegedly warned that the release of the content would cause significant reputational and financial damage to the businessman.

The case highlights the growing legal challenges surrounding digital privacy and so-called “sextortion” schemes. Prosecutors are seeking to hold the woman accountable under federal extortion statutes that carry potential prison time.

Edens has not made any public statement regarding the charges. His legal team has cooperated fully with the investigation, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The woman remains in custody pending a detention hearing. If convicted, she faces up to 20 years in federal prison for extortion charges.
