Tulsi Gabbard Resigns as Director of National Intelligence; Trump Appoints Aaron Lukas as Acting Chief

Tulsi Gabbard resigned as Director of National Intelligence on Friday, ending a tumultuous tenure marked by limited influence during key national security decisions.

President Donald Trump named Aaron Lukas as acting chief of the intelligence agency. Lukas will serve in the role on an interim basis.

Gabbard’s time in the administration faced consistent challenges. She was rarely present when the president made major national security moves.

Under her leadership, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence struggled to maintain its traditional coordination role across the U.S. intelligence community.

Some officials expressed concerns about her approach to intelligence briefings and her relationships with other national security agencies.

The departure follows months of internal friction, though the White House did not specify the reasons for the resignation.

Lukas brings previous experience in intelligence policy and is expected to focus on restoring routine operations at the agency.
