The Alabama Republican primary to replace Senator Tommy Tuberville is heading to a runoff.
Representative Barry Moore led a crowded field of candidates in Tuesday’s vote.
Other top contenders included Jared Hudson, a former Navy SEAL, and Steve Marshall, the state attorney general.
No candidate secured the majority needed to win outright.
Moore and the second-place finisher will face each other in a runoff election.
The winner of the runoff will be heavily favored in the general election.
Alabama is a deeply red state, making the Republican nomination effectively the final prize.
