French authorities have barred approximately 1,700 cruise passengers from disembarking a ship docked in Le Havre after dozens fell ill.
Around 50 people aboard the Ambassador Cruise Line vessel *Ambition* have shown symptoms consistent with an acute gastrointestinal infection.
Local health officials ordered the quarantine to prevent the potential spread of the illness within the port city.
The ship arrived in Normandy on Wednesday morning, but passengers were immediately restricted to the vessel.
Ambassador Cruise Line confirmed the situation in a statement, noting that affected passengers were receiving medical care.
The company is cooperating with French health authorities to manage the outbreak and sanitize the ship.
Passengers have been asked to remain in their cabins while cleaning crews disinfect common areas.
It remains unclear when the quarantine will be lifted, pending further health assessments.
The incident is the latest in a series of gastrointestinal illness outbreaks on cruise ships in recent years.
