Goldman Sachs Lawyer Kathryn Ruemmler Faces Congress Over Epstein Email Jokes

Goldman Sachs lawyer Kathryn Ruemmler faced sharp questioning from Congress over her emails joking with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Ruemmler told lawmakers the messages had been taken out of context. She described herself as “friendly” with Epstein but called him a “masterful liar.”

The emails, reviewed by congressional investigators, included casual and humorous exchanges between Ruemmler and Epstein. Lawmakers pressed her on the nature and frequency of their communication.

Ruemmler acknowledged the friendship but stressed she was unaware of Epstein’s criminal activities at the time. She maintained her professional judgment was not compromised.

Committee members expressed skepticism, noting the close relationship implied by the emails. They questioned whether Ruemmler’s ties to Epstein influenced her legal work.

The hearing highlighted ongoing scrutiny of Epstein’s extensive network of associates. Many of his contacts have faced similar congressional inquiries.

Ruemmler defended her conduct, emphasizing her decades of legal experience and commitment to ethical standards. She denied any wrongdoing.

The investigation into Epstein’s connections continues, with lawmakers seeking accountability from those who interacted with him. The case remains a focus of public and political attention.
