Apple has introduced a new 7-inch smart display called the HomeView. The device functions as a central hub for controlling smart home accessories. It blends design elements from the iPhone and the Apple Watch.
The HomeView features customizable “faces” that mimic watch complications. Users can arrange widgets for weather, calendars, and home controls. These faces adapt to different rooms and times of day.
The display runs a modified version of the software found on Apple TVs. It supports Siri voice commands and hand gestures for navigation. A built-in camera enables video calls and presence detection.
Unlike an iPad, the HomeView is meant to stay in one place. It mounts on a wall or sits on a stand. The screen shows persistent information rather than a traditional app grid.
Apple positions the device as a command center for HomeKit devices. It can manage lights, thermostats, and security cameras. The interface prioritizes quick glances over deep interaction.
Privacy remains a focus, with a physical shutter for the camera. Processing for some tasks happens on-device. Apple says user data is not stored in the cloud without consent.
The HomeView is expected to launch later this year. Pricing has not been announced. It will compete with similar smart displays from Amazon and Google.
