Tom Colicchio to Close Craft, His Flagship NYC Restaurant, After 25 Years

Tom Colicchio is closing Craft, his flagship New York City restaurant, after 25 years in operation. The chef and longtime judge on “Top Chef” confirmed the news this week.

Craft first opened its doors in 2001 in Manhattan’s Flatiron district. It helped define a new style of upscale American dining with its refined, ingredient-focused menu.

Colicchio said running a restaurant in New York has changed significantly in recent years. He cited shifts in the clientele and overall dining landscape as key factors.

The restaurant industry in New York has faced mounting challenges since the pandemic. Rising costs, changing customer habits, and a tighter labor market have reshaped the business.

Craft was known for its communal dining concept and seasonal tasting menus. It earned critical acclaim and a loyal following among food enthusiasts and industry peers.

The closure marks the end of an era for one of the city’s most influential restaurants. Colicchio’s other establishments, including Craft in Los Angeles, will continue operating.

Colicchio expressed gratitude to the staff and guests who supported Craft over the years. The restaurant is expected to serve its final meals later this summer.
