Cisco’s AI ‘Supercycle’ Drives Record Quarterly Results, Yet Stock Pulls Back Despite Blowout 2027 Forecast

Cisco reported record quarterly results driven by what executives call an artificial intelligence “supercycle,” yet its stock pulled back despite the upbeat figures. Revenue surged 18% year over year, fueled by strong demand for AI networking infrastructure. The company also issued a blowout forecast for fiscal 2027, signaling prolonged growth ahead.

Investor reaction remained muted, with shares slipping in after-hours trading. The pullback suggests that Wall Street had already priced in much of the optimism. Cisco’s stock had climbed steadily in recent months on expectations of an AI-driven boom.

The company’s core networking business saw robust orders from cloud providers and enterprise customers. Cisco highlighted record backlog levels tied to AI-related products, including switches and routers designed for high-performance data centers. Executives described the demand as broad-based rather than concentrated in a few large clients.

Cisco’s guidance for 2027 exceeded analyst consensus by a wide margin. The forecast includes expectations for continued double-digit revenue growth and margin expansion. Management pointed to AI as a multiyear catalyst, with customers upgrading infrastructure to support machine learning workloads.

The results mark a turning point for Cisco, which had struggled with sluggish growth in recent years. The company has pivoted toward software and subscription services, but AI hardware demand is now driving the latest acceleration. Supply chain constraints have eased, allowing Cisco to meet orders faster.

Competitors in the AI networking space, including Arista Networks and Nvidia, also reported strong demand recently. Cisco’s performance suggests the market is expanding rather than simply shifting share among vendors. Analysts noted that AI networking could represent a $50 billion opportunity by the end of the decade.

Despite the stock pullback, several analysts raised their price targets following the earnings release. They cited the strength of the AI cycle and Cisco’s ability to convert order momentum into revenue. The company’s balance sheet remains solid, with significant cash reserves for potential acquisitions.

Cisco’s management emphasized that the AI supercycle is still in its early stages. They pointed to growing adoption of generative AI tools across industries, which requires substantial network upgrades. The company intends to invest heavily in research and development to maintain its competitive edge.

The pullback may also reflect broader market concerns about high valuations in the tech sector. Cisco’s shares trade at a premium compared to historical averages, though below some faster-growing peers. Investors may be waiting for clearer evidence that the AI boom will translate into sustained profitability.

Cisco’s record quarter underscores a shift in the networking industry’s fortunes. The company’s ability to capitalize on AI demand will likely define its trajectory over the next several years. For now, the financial results speak to a business in the midst of a major growth cycle.
