Amazon Stock Could Nearly Double by 2025: Morgan Stanley’s Bullish AWS and Profitability Playbook

Morgan Stanley analysts project Amazon’s stock could nearly double by the end of next year, driven by its long-term cloud computing ambitions. The firm’s analysis highlights a clear path to significant shareholder value, even though the company remains far from its $1 trillion cloud revenue target.

The investment bank’s bull case rests on Amazon Web Services (AWS) regaining momentum. Morgan Stanley sees the cloud division as the primary catalyst for future earnings growth, with its operating margins expected to expand as demand stabilizes. The analysts argue that AWS’s scale and infrastructure give it a durable competitive advantage over rivals.

A key part of the thesis involves Amazon’s cost-cutting measures taking fuller effect. Over the past year, the company has streamlined logistics and reduced overhead, which should boost profitability in 2024. These efficiencies, combined with a recovering retail segment, are expected to lift overall operating income.

Morgan Stanley sets a bullish price target that implies roughly 95% upside from current levels. While the projection is aggressive, the analysts cite a combination of margin recovery, advertising growth, and cloud reacceleration. They also point to Amazon’s valuation, which trades below historical averages relative to its growth potential.

The note acknowledges near-term risks, including macroeconomic pressure on consumer spending. However, the team believes these headwinds are already priced into the stock. They suggest that any improvement in the retail environment could serve as an additional upside driver.

Advertising remains a quieter but powerful contributor to the forecast. Amazon’s ad business continues to grow faster than the broader digital ad market. Morgan Stanley expects this segment to become a more meaningful profit center, further supporting the stock’s valuation multiple.

Execution remains the critical variable. The analysts stress that Amazon must consistently hit its margin targets and sustain cloud market share. If AWS growth stabilizes at double-digit rates and retail margins hold, the near-doubling scenario becomes plausible.

For investors, the call reflects confidence in Amazon’s operational discipline rather than speculative hype. The stock’s current price does not fully reflect the company’s earnings potential over the next 18 months, according to the report. The firm recommends buying ahead of an expected earnings inflection point.

While the $1 trillion cloud revenue figure remains a distant milestone, it frames the scale of opportunity. Morgan Stanley’s analysis suggests that even incremental progress toward that goal could translate into outsized returns for shareholders. The next year will test whether that thesis holds.
