AI Selloff and Geopolitical Tensions Cloud a Data-Heavy Week for Markets

Chip makers and other technology stocks dragged major U.S. indexes lower as investors weighed fresh concerns about artificial intelligence valuations and escalating geopolitical tensions. The pullback marked the start of a week packed with economic data releases and corporate earnings reports.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite led the decline, with semiconductor companies bearing the brunt of the selling pressure. Nvidia and other key chip producers saw their shares fall as market participants questioned whether recent AI-driven rallies had outpaced actual earnings potential.

Geopolitical risks added to the cautious mood, with new developments in global conflict zones prompting investors to reassess their risk exposure. Treasury yields ticked higher as demand for safe-haven assets fluctuated throughout the session.

Trading volumes were lighter than usual ahead of several high-profile reports scheduled for later in the week. Federal Reserve officials are also set to speak, offering potential clues about the path of interest rates amid mixed inflation signals.

Analysts noted that the market remains sensitive to any signs of slowing AI infrastructure spending. Several large cloud providers have signaled continued investment, but some smaller players have hinted at more cautious budgeting.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped as well, though by a narrower margin than the broader market. Energy stocks bucked the trend, gaining ground alongside rising crude oil prices tied to supply concerns.

Investors now look ahead to upcoming jobs data and retail earnings for clearer directional cues. The week promises to test whether the recent equity rally can hold up against mounting macro and geopolitical headwinds.
