Inside North Korean Hackers’ Servers: A Two-Year Covert Probe Exposes a Global Network Breach Campaign

A security researcher spent nearly two years inside the servers of North Korean hackers. Vangelis Stykas maintained covert access to their infrastructure. His findings reveal a global intrusion campaign.

Stykas discovered the hackers had breached hundreds of networks worldwide. The affected systems span multiple countries and sectors. The scale of the operation surprised even the researcher.

The North Korean group targeted a wide range of organizations. Government agencies, financial institutions, and technology firms were among the victims. The intrusions went undetected for extended periods.

Stykas gained his access through a series of technical exploits. He leveraged vulnerabilities in the hackers’ own tools. This allowed him to monitor their activity without detection.

The researcher documented stolen credentials and backdoor access. He observed the hackers moving laterally across networks. Their methods showed a high level of sophistication and patience.

Many of the breached networks remained compromised for months. The hackers exfiltrated sensitive data and disrupted operations. Some victims likely never knew they were attacked.

Stykas’ work highlights persistent gaps in global cybersecurity. Organizations often lack the resources to detect such advanced threats. The findings also show how nation-state actors operate with impunity.

The researcher shared his findings with affected parties. Some took steps to secure their systems. Others remained vulnerable due to limited response capabilities.

This case underscores the need for stronger international cooperation. Cyber threats from state-sponsored groups continue to grow. Without shared intelligence, similar breaches will likely repeat.
