Nithya Raman Surges Past Spencer Pratt to Challenge Karen Bass in L.A. Mayoral Runoff

Nithya Raman has moved into second place in the Los Angeles mayoral race, positioning herself to challenge Mayor Karen Bass in November. The shift comes as election officials continue counting outstanding ballots.

Raman overtook Spencer Pratt, a reality television personality known for his role on “The Hills.” Pratt had been leading in earlier vote tallies but has since fallen to third place.

The race determines which two candidates will advance to the general election runoff. Mayor Karen Bass currently holds first place and is seeking a second term.

Raman, a city councilmember, has gained support from progressive voters and labor unions. Her campaign focused on housing affordability and homelessness policy.

Pratt’s candidacy drew attention for its celebrity backing and unconventional platform. He entered the race as a political outsider with limited governing experience.

Final election results are not yet certified. Thousands of mail-in and provisional ballots still require processing.

The outcome will shape Los Angeles’ political direction on key issues like public safety and economic recovery. The general election is scheduled for November 2026.
