Oil Prices Record Steepest Single-Day Drop in Two Months Following U.S. Pause on Iran Strikes

Oil prices experienced their steepest one-day drop in two months on Monday, following the United States’ decision to pause strikes against Iran.

West Texas Intermediate crude futures declined sharply, while Brent crude’s front-month contract also posted significant losses. The move came as geopolitical tensions eased temporarily.

The U.S. halt on offensive operations reduced immediate fears of supply disruptions in the Middle East. Markets reacted swiftly, reversing some recent gains driven by conflict risk premiums.

Traders reassessed the likelihood of a broader regional conflict impacting oil production. The pause signaled potential for diplomatic progress, dampening bullish sentiment among speculators.

Analysts noted that the decline reflected a recalibration of risk in global oil markets. Without active hostilities, supply forecasts from the region appeared more stable.

The one-day drop marked the largest since early February, underscoring oil’s sensitivity to political signals. Previous rallies had been fueled by ongoing strikes and retaliation threats.

Energy investors now watch for further diplomatic developments. Any renewed escalation could quickly restore upward pressure on crude prices.
