Supreme Court Justices Kagan and Barrett to Testify Before Congress Over Urgent Security Funding

Supreme Court Justices Elena Kagan and Amy Coney Barrett will appear before lawmakers this week to request millions of dollars in additional security funding. The testimony marks the first time since 2019 that any justice has spoken directly to Congress.

The rare appearance comes amid rising threats against the judiciary. Both justices plan to emphasize the need for enhanced protection for the Court and its personnel.

The requested funds would address security vulnerabilities exposed by recent incidents. Officials have noted an increase in hostile communications directed at justices and their families.

Kagan and Barrett will testify before a House appropriations subcommittee. Their presence underscores the growing urgency of the security situation.

The Court has faced unprecedented challenges in maintaining safety. The justices’ decision to testify signals the seriousness of the threat environment.

Lawmakers are expected to approve additional resources. The funding would support physical security upgrades and expanded protective measures.

The testimony highlights a shift in the Court’s traditional distance from Congress. It reflects the heightened risks facing federal judges nationwide.
