Amazon Cargo Jet Crew’s Late Go-Around Attempt Under Scrutiny in Miami Runway Overrun Probe

Federal investigators revealed that the pilots of an Amazon cargo jet attempted to abort their landing moments before the aircraft overran a Miami runway. The new details emerged from a National Transportation Safety Board probe into the incident. Crucial seconds were lost during the sequence, according to the agency’s preliminary findings.

The crew’s actions suggest a late decision to halt the descent, which may have contributed to the failed stop. Investigators said the plane touched down but could not halt before reaching the runway’s end. No injuries were reported among the crew or on the ground.

The aircraft, operating for Amazon, was arriving in Miami when the event unfolded. The N.T.S.B. has focused on the timing of the throttle and braking inputs. Pilots appeared to initiate a go-around procedure, but the attempt came too late to prevent the excursion.

Weather conditions and runway surface factors are also under review. The board has not yet determined a probable cause, citing the need for further analysis. Data recorders and cockpit voice recordings have been retrieved for examination.

The incident adds to a broader scrutiny of cargo flight operations and crew decision-making under pressure. Amazon has declined to comment while the investigation remains active. The Federal Aviation Administration is working alongside the N.T.S.B. on the case.

Investigators are now reconstructing the final approach and landing sequence in detail. They will compare the crew’s actions against standard operating procedures. A final report is expected within the next year.

The Miami runway where the jet stopped has since been reopened after temporary closures. Airport officials confirmed that no significant structural damage occurred. The aircraft sustained damage to its landing gear and lower fuselage.

Experts note that aborting a landing after touchdown is a high-risk maneuver that requires immediate recognition. The seconds lost in this incident may prove central to understanding the outcome. The N.T.S.B. continues to interview the pilots and review their training records.
