Teacher credits bestselling author Jack Carr’s novels with rekindling student patriotism after pledge dispute

A Mississippi teacher reports that bestselling author Jack Carr’s novels have rekindled a sense of patriotism in his students. Teacher Kelly McGinnis told Fox News Digital that Carr’s work inspired pupils who had stopped standing for the Pledge of Allegiance.

The shift occurred amid a broader debate over national values in the classroom. McGinnis observed that his students were disengaged from traditional displays of patriotism before encountering Carr’s books.

Carr, a former Navy SEAL and author of the James Reece series, writes thrillers focused on duty and sacrifice. McGinnis used these novels as a tool to discuss themes of service and country.

The teacher noted that students responded strongly to Carr’s authentic military background. They began asking questions about what it means to defend the nation and its ideals.

This change led to a renewed willingness to participate in patriotic rituals. Students who once refused to stand for the Pledge now do so without hesitation, according to McGinnis.

The experience highlights how literature can bridge divides on values. Carr’s stories provided a concrete context for abstract concepts of loyalty and citizenship.

For McGinnis, the result was a classroom more united in shared appreciation for the country. The teacher sees this as a quiet victory in a polarized time.
