Supreme Court Blocks Trump Administration’s Mail-In Voting Restrictions Before Midterms

The Supreme Court has blocked the Trump administration from changing mail-in voting rules before the midterms. The ruling prevents the United States Postal Service from enforcing new restrictions on ballot delivery. Election officials warned those changes could disrupt voting in November.

The decision addresses concerns that postal policy shifts could delay or disqualify mail-in ballots. USPS had proposed operational changes that critics said would slow processing times. The court found the changes could cause irreparable harm to voters.

Mail-in voting has become a central issue in recent elections. Millions of Americans rely on the postal service to cast ballots from home. Any disruption to that system can affect turnout and results.

The ruling follows a series of legal challenges from states and voting rights groups. They argued the administration lacked authority to alter election procedures unilaterally. The court agreed that the proposed changes exceeded executive power.

Postal officials have not commented on how they will adjust operations. The agency must now maintain existing delivery standards through the election. State election offices are preparing for an increase in mail-in requests.

Voting experts say the decision provides temporary stability. However, they note that broader disputes over election rules remain unresolved. Legal battles over ballot deadlines and verification continue in lower courts.

The midterm elections will test the resilience of the mail-in voting system. Officials encourage voters to request ballots early and track their submissions. The Supreme Court’s action removes one immediate barrier to participation.
