Hair and makeup designers for the “Legally Blonde” prequel series have revealed the process behind creating a teenage Elle Woods. The transformation of actress Lexi Minetree into the iconic character required historically accurate products and mid-1990s references.
The design team focused on capturing Elle’s signature style while adapting it for a younger version. Makeup artists used era-specific techniques, including brown lip liner paired with clear gloss, frosted eyeshadow, and minimal foundation.
Hair stylists recreated classic 1990s looks for the series. They relied on voluminous blowouts, crimped textures, and butterfly clips to match the decade’s aesthetic. The character’s iconic blonde shade remained a central focus.
Period-accurate beauty products played a key role in the transformation. The team sourced vintage or reproduction items, including shimmery body lotions, iridescent powders, and pastel nail polishes common in the mid-1990s.
Costume and beauty choices referenced specific pop culture moments from the era. Designers studied fashion magazines, teen films, and music videos to ensure authenticity in every scene featuring Minetree as Elle.
The prequel series explores Elle Woods as a high school student before her Harvard Law School days. This timeline allowed the design team to experiment with less polished, more playful beauty looks compared to the original films.
Historical accuracy extended to hair tools and styling methods. Designers avoided modern heat protectants and smoothing serums, instead using products available in the mid-1990s like gel mousse and hair spray.
The transformation process took several hours each filming day. Minetree underwent extensive hair styling and makeup application to achieve the youthful yet recognizable version of the beloved character.
