Two U.S. Army soldiers are missing after a joint military exercise in southwestern Morocco.
The soldiers disappeared on Saturday near the Cap Draa Training Area, a coastal site used for the African Lion drills. Their absence was reported during the ongoing multinational training event.
Search and recovery operations are underway, involving U.S. and Moroccan personnel. Military officials have not released the names of the missing service members pending family notification.
The African Lion exercise is the largest U.S. military training event in Africa. This year’s drills involve thousands of troops from multiple nations.
Weather conditions in the remote coastal region can change rapidly. Officials have not specified the soldiers’ last known activity.
The incident is under investigation, with no signs of foul play reported thus far. U.S. Africa Command is coordinating efforts to locate the missing soldiers.
Both the Department of Defense and Moroccan authorities are assisting in the search. The training area is located near the Atlantic Ocean, presenting additional challenges for rescue teams.
Updates on the search will be provided as information becomes available. The military remains focused on the safe return of the two service members.
