Federal Judge Blocks Postal Service Mail-In Voting Restrictions Again

A federal judge has again blocked the Postal Service from enforcing new restrictions on mail-in voting. The ruling came after a review of the agency’s final plan to comply with President Trump’s demands. The judge determined that the proposed changes could undermine the integrity of the upcoming election.

The decision marks the second time the court has intervened in the matter. Officials had argued the restrictions were necessary to address operational concerns. However, the judge found insufficient evidence to justify the limitations.

Mail-in voting has become a central point of contention in recent months. Election officials across the country have expanded absentee ballot access due to the pandemic. The Postal Service plays a critical role in delivering those ballots to election offices.

The judge’s order prevents the agency from altering its current procedures. This includes changes to processing times and delivery standards for ballot mail. Postal workers are instructed to prioritize election mail under existing guidelines.

Legal challenges to the plan were filed by several states and voting rights groups. They argued that the restrictions would disproportionately affect minority and low-income voters. The court agreed that the risk of disenfranchisement outweighed the agency’s stated concerns.

The Postal Service has not yet announced whether it will appeal the ruling. Spokespersons declined to comment on the ongoing litigation. The agency has previously stated that it is capable of handling the expected surge in mail volume.

This decision provides temporary clarity for voters preparing to cast ballots by mail. State election officials are urging residents to request and return ballots early. The judge’s order remains in effect unless overturned by a higher court.
